About the museum

Hliník is a character from the film Marečku, podejte mi pero! whom nobody has ever seen, and yet he made the town of Humpolec famous with the line that he moved there. In September 2002 a memorial plaque to Hliník was unveiled in the Stromovka park in Humpolec, in the presence of the film’s screenwriters Zdeněk Svěrák and Ladislav Smoljak. Tourists’ interest in this non-existent character prompted the Municipal Cultural and Information Centre in Humpolec to come up with the idea of building a museum for Hliník.

HLINÍKárium opened in September 2006 as a spoof museum in the cinema building on Havlíčkovo náměstí; the entrance is through the information centre. The exhibition rests on three pillars: a compilation of the funniest scenes from the film with photographs and props from the filming, a reminder of the unveiling of the memorial plaque in 2002, and public reactions to the fact that Hliník moved to Humpolec.

Part of the collection is a set of postcards which came to Hliník from all over the world for the opening of the museum and continue to arrive to this day; their number has exceeded 800. In 2014 the centre planted a plum sapling from Hujer’s garden near the stone with the memorial plaque.
