About the museum
Zichpil is a quarter of Humpolec between the Upper Square and the cemetery. Jews settled here outside the town from the end of the 17th century, and continuous development arose from the 1780s in connection with the Josephine reforms. In 1785 a tolerance chapel was built here, one of the first in Bohemia. In smaller log and partly brick houses lived poor craftsmen, mainly weavers. From the 1960s of the 20th century the quarter was gradually demolished.
One of the preserved houses is the Nápravník house No. 338. It is a half-log, single-storey cottage which, according to dendrochronological research, was built mainly in 1793–1794 and completed after 1840. After the death of its last owner in the mid-1990s it fell into decay. Since 2009 it has belonged to the town of Humpolec and is managed by the company Castrum o.p.s., which carries out its repairs and has made the open-air museum accessible to the public.
The guided tour begins in the Nápravník house, where visitors learn about the beginnings of settlement in the region and the life of local weavers at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It continues to the tolerance church and ends in the former synagogue, now used by the Czechoslovak Hussite Church.
