About the museum
The Small School Museum of Mammoth Hunters, abbreviated MAŠMULMA, was founded in 1999 as a reminder of the world-famous archaeological site at Předmostí. It was set up by the then headmaster of the primary school, Vladimír Pešek. While preparing the first displays, the school worked with the Moravské zemské muzeum (Moravian Museum) in Brno, which lent copies of some finds, and with the Muzeum Komenského v Přerově.
The first exhibition space was in the old school building. Later the museum moved into a former nuclear fallout shelter in the new school building. In 2020, however, a water pipe burst there and groundwater seeped in, so the exhibits had to be moved elsewhere. The museum managed to reopen in 2021, also thanks to the Predmostenzis association.
Today it is on the ground floor of the old school. The centrepiece of the exhibition is an installation of a prehistoric hut with models of its inhabitants and a replica of the famous engraving on a mammoth tusk, the so-called Předmostí Venus. The museum serves teaching and is also open to the public once a month.
