About the museum

The MJ-S 29 Svah bunker belongs to the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications built in the 1930s. It was assigned to the Mikulov subsection and is the only completed isolated infantry bunker in that subsection. Concrete was poured on 12–17 September 1938; the structure's volume reached 1,450 m³. According to the Mikulov town portal, the bunker was used for military purposes until 1999.

The bunker has two floors. The above-ground combat floor contains two loopholes, a corridor, an entrance, a radio room, a room for the chemical specialist and two observation bells. Underground there was an engine room, a kitchen, crew quarters, a washroom with a toilet and a well. The bunk beds for the men were shared by two soldiers, so that one could rest while the other was on duty. Ditches up to three meters deep lie in front of the wall with the main loopholes, to keep attackers from approaching the structure. Air for the crew was cleaned by filters against chemical attack.

The Klub vojenské historie – Pevnost Mikulov (Military History Club – Mikulov Fortress), founded in 2008, has been restoring the bunker for a long time. The association runs a seasonal museum there with an exhibition of period artifacts related to fortress construction, Second World War and modern infantry weapons, equipment and gear. Light structures of model 36 and model 37 can also be seen.
