About the museum
The exhibition was founded in 1988 in Vidnava in northern Moravia. After the end of its twelfth season it was moved to Hradec Králové, enriched with a number of new exhibits, and on 22 June 2001 it was ceremonially reopened in new premises on part of the Signal Mont company site. Some exhibits were loaned by the National Technical Museum in Prague. Its current administrator and operator is the Centre for Technology and Diagnostics of Správa železnic.
The collection presents elements and equipment of signalling and safety technology from the period from the beginnings of the railway to the end of the 20th century and, according to the operator, is unique even on a European scale. Apart from a single hall, furnished as a transport office from the early 20th century, visitors can move among the exhibits and try out how they work.
The exhibition also includes a library of museum documentation: specialist publications, periodicals, service regulations, standards, sample sheets, drawings, company materials and photographs. Researchers can study them in the reading room by prior arrangement. Another Správa železnic exhibition operates in Děčín, in signal box 15 “sever”.
