About the museum

The comic Čtyřlístek (Four-Leaf Clover) was invented by Jaroslav Němeček. The first story, Vynález prof. Myšpulína (The Invention of Prof. Myšpulín), was brought to the editorial office of the publisher Orbis in 1969, and great reader interest called for further instalments. The author set the story in the area around Doksy: Třeskoprsky is Doksy, the pond Blaťák is Máchovo jezero (Mácha Lake), and the castle Bezzub corresponds to Bezděz.

The first museum devoted to the comic opened in Doksy in December 2011 in the attic of the town library in Valdštejnská Street. Interest was so great that the queue for a tour reached almost half a kilometre. When the town took over the Doksy chateau from the Liberec Region in 2015 and began to reconstruct it, it was clear that the museum would get new premises, and on 22 December 2019 it opened on the second floor of the chateau.

After a break of more than a year, on 21 February 2026, the day of Jaroslav Němeček’s birthday, the reconstructed museum was solemnly opened, four rooms larger and more focused on children.
