About the museum

The Jaroslav Foglar Museum first opened on 6 July 2017 in the grounds of Ledeč nad Sázavou Castle. It is run by the company Hrad Ledeč nad Sázavou s.r.o. The castle was chosen because of its proximity to the River Sázava and to the Sluneční zátoka (Sunny Bay), where the writer Jaroslav Foglar led scout camps and where the ideas for some of his books arose.

The exhibition covers Foglar’s entire life and work across eight rooms. The visual design was created by the painter and illustrator Milan Teslevič, whose hundreds of illustrations and large-format wallpapers evoke the atmosphere of the mysterious Stínadla. The collection of puzzles Ježek v kleci (Hedgehog in a Cage), displayed in an unconventional case designed by Teslevič and built by puzzle designer Radek Micopulos, is also part of the museum. On view too is a model of the camp and clubhouse of the Hoši od Bobří řeky (Boys from the Beaver River), and life-size figures of the Rychlé šípy, in front of which visitors can have their photo taken.

According to the operator, the museum is continually expanded with new information and materials.
