About the museum
The Museum of Carriages in Čechy pod Kosířem was founded by collector and restorer Václav Obr. He built a purpose-designed building for the collection on his own land, right on the square, and the museum opened to the public in 2009. The collection focuses on carriages made and used in the Czech lands and in Moravia, and has gradually grown to about a hundred exhibits.
Besides carriages, the collection also includes sleighs and carriage lanterns. On the ground floor there is a set of lanterns; in the attic visitors find photographs, plans and period brochures. The tour includes the large halls with carriages and the storeroom; the full ticket covers the entire building.
A new exhibition of carriages from castles and chateaux has now opened. For groups, the museum offers tours outside normal opening hours, and occasionally holds special programmes, for example on the feast day of St Wenceslas.
