About the museum

The municipal museum in Tetín first opened on 26 October 2002 as the Historická síň obce Tetína (Historical Hall of the Village of Tetín). It was created on the initiative of local native Dr Jana Brajerová, who prepared the plan and the list of exhibits and acquired the display items. In the years up to 2019 the exhibition underwent several changes. Thanks to a grant from the Ministry for Regional Development, the museum was completely rebuilt and reopened on 20 June 2020.

The exhibition tells the legend of the founding of Tetín, of Princess Ludmila, who was murdered here in 921, and of the beginnings of Christianity and the stay of the first Přemyslids. It also recalls personalities such as the chronicler Václav Hájek z Libočan (Václav Hájek of Libočany) and the Czech National Revival figures. Other sections are devoted to archaeology, palaeontology and the nature of the Chráněná krajinná oblast Český kras (Bohemian Karst Protected Landscape Area).

In 2024 the Expozice těžby vápence v Českém krasu (Exhibition on Limestone Quarrying in the Bohemian Karst) opened in Tetín. It is located in the tunnel to the Modrý lom (Blue Quarry), which since 1942 has served to transport limestone from the quarries. The municipality had the tunnel repaired and added forty panels on the history of quarrying, the use of limestone and significant sites of the Bohemian Karst. The exhibition has been accessible to visitors since spring 2025.
