About the museum
The museum stands in Horní Albeřice, a district of Horní Maršov in the Krkonoše mountains, on the grounds of a listed lime kiln on the bank of the Albeřice stream. The stone eight-sided tower of the 19th-century shaft lime kiln is owned by the Správa Krkonošského národního parku (Krkonoše National Park Administration).
Above the original tower, an eight-sided timber superstructure was built in 2007–2011 that exactly follows the shape of the lime kiln. It was designed by Miloslav Klimeš and Petr Růžička and built with traditional carpentry methods: spruce planks are joined with oak pegs, and the only metal elements are four clamps around the vertical beams. The structure is based on modular circles and refers to Gothic building principles. The museum was created in cooperation with the Krkonoše National Park Administration, the Hradní společnost Aichelburg association and the Veselý výlet association.
The 2011 exhibition was prepared by the brothers Miloslav and Pavel Klimeš. Through short stories and 308 images, including historical and contemporary photographs, drawings and maps, it tells of seven centuries of life in the Albeřice valley. The stories are linked to striking buildings, families and events of the place. The exhibition includes an interactive part for children with maps and jigsaw puzzles.
