About the museum
Alphonse Mucha spent his childhood and youth in Ivančice, and the town now commemorates him with a memorial plaque, an exhibition and a themed walk. The memorial is housed on Palackého náměstí in one of the town’s oldest buildings, which served as the town hall until 1850.
The exhibition Muchova stezka: Document Decoratives presents Mucha not only as a master of Art Nouveau but also as a visionary of design and a teacher. It focuses on his pattern books Documents décoratifs from 1902 and Figures décoratives from 1905, and traces how his way of working with composition and ornament is reflected in contemporary design, from posters of the sixties to Japanese comics. It is part of the international Muchova stezka project initiated by Nadace Mucha.
The building also houses an exhibition on Vladimír Menšík, a significant actor born in Ivančice in 1929. It opened in October 1999 and consists of personal belongings, family photographs, documents and film stills; the visit is accompanied by the actor’s voice. The memorial also includes a shop selling souvenirs featuring works by Alphonse Mucha.
