About the museum
The memorial was created in the house of Vilém Mrštík in Diváky. In May 1958 a society of friends of the Mrštík brothers’ work was founded here, and it organised a small exhibition for the 95th anniversary of Vilém Mrštík’s birth. At the turn of the 1950s and 1960s the municipality of Diváky bought the house and handed it over to the administration of the Břeclav district. It was managed by the then District Local History Museum in Mikulov, today the Regional Museum in Mikulov. Today the memorial is owned by the South Moravian Region.
The Mrštík family did not live in the house at that time: after her husband’s death in 1912, Božena Mrštíková returned to Hejčín near Olomouc, and Alois Mrštík died in 1925. The house therefore fell to the museum empty. The first exhibition opened in 1963 for the 100th anniversary of Vilém Mrštík’s birth. A second exhibition was prepared in 1977–1979, made accessible on a trial basis on 1 July 1982, and with minor changes remained in use until the end of 2017.
The new permanent exhibition is the third. As part of a revitalisation co-financed by the European Union, the aim is to preserve and develop the memorial’s potential and bring it closer to the public through new media, educational programmes and remote access to the exhibition and the collection items.
