About the museum

Danmarks Busmuseum in Skælskør is the only bus museum in the country. Its roots go back to the association Bushistorisk Selskab, which since 1994 had been devoted to the history of Danish intercity and city buses, collecting photos, display boards, and memorabilia, and from 2007 also owned its own vintage buses. In March 2016, the non-profit foundation Danmarks Busmuseum Fond was established and took over all of the association's holdings; on July 1, 2016, the museum opened to visitors.

It is housed in a commercial property on Fabriksvej, which the foundation first rented and was able to buy in early 2019. Since then the collection has grown considerably and today includes around 97 vehicles, from interwar buses to vehicles of the late 1990s. The vehicles are complemented by exhibitions on bus companies and coachbuilders, a library, and an archive.

The museum is run exclusively by volunteers. Besides operating the museum, it rents out vintage buses with a driver for weddings, anniversaries, company events, and film shoots, and in summer invites visitors on tours through Skælskør in the red double-decker. Every August it also organizes a Nordic meeting for historic buses and trucks at the harbor.
