About the museum

The Industribaneklubben was founded on March 9, 1974, in Køge by 18 narrow-gauge enthusiasts. In 1975 the Høje-Taastrup Kommune offered the club rooms and land at Hedehusgården in the future recreation area of Hedeland, a former gravel pit. That same year the club acquired its first locomotives from the sugar beet railways near Nakskov and beet wagons from Lolland, which set the gauge at 700 mm. On May 21, 1977, the first section, about 100 meters long, was inaugurated together with the Hedeland nature area.

From 1980, passenger trains ran regularly on summer weekends, and the line grew step by step: in 1993 it reached Rubjerg station with two-train operation, in 2004 the section to Fem Ege opened, and in 2007 the first train crossed the bridge over the country road between Greve and Roskilde. In 1995 the Da 7 from 1921 became the first steam locomotive in regular service, followed in 2008 by the restored Vildmosetilsynet No. 3. Christmas trains have been a tradition since 2001.

In 1996 the members built a 600-square-meter carriage and museum hall at Hedehusgården with an exhibition on Danish industrial railways and vehicles still awaiting restoration. The locomotives and carriages come from decommissioned sugar beet, brickworks, and industrial railways. Operations, workshop, and track maintenance are entirely in the hands of volunteer club members.
