Hørvævsmuseet på Krengerup
Working textile museum on the Krengerup estate near Glamsbjerg with hand looms and power looms from the former weaving mill in Tommerup.
About the museum
The impetus was the closure of Tommerup Væveri in 1969: a group of people interested in history was later offered the mill's machines free of charge and in 1992 founded the association Foreningen Hørvævsmuseet på Krengerup in order to preserve this piece of West Funen industrial history. In 1994 the museum opened under the direction of the former manager Kurt Reindel, supported by former employees of the weaving mill.
The museum is housed as a tenant on the Krengerup estate. The power looms stand in the former calf barn; exhibition rooms and café have been in the former cow barn since 1999. Foundations such as Velux and Nykredits Fond funded the setup, and in 2021 the building was significantly expanded.
The permanent exhibition spans from simple hand looms to computer-controlled Jacquard machines and shows patterns, textiles and tools for flax processing. The holdings include over 200,000 punch cards for 22 traditional patterns. Volunteers demonstrate the techniques of weaving, spinning and dyeing, and since 2001 the museum has also offered courses. The museum's own shop sells fabrics woven on the house's Jacquard looms.
