Landbomuseet Kolding
Volunteer-run agricultural museum on the Brødsgård farm near Harte with about 2,500 implements from farming, household and crafts.
About the museum
The foundation of the museum was laid by the farmer Johannes Elbæk, who for decades collected, restored and cataloged old farm implements and machinery on his farm Lykkensborg on Almind Hede north of Kolding. He showed his collection of about 1,700 numbers there without public subsidies and with personal tours by arrangement.
When Kolding Municipality wanted to acquire the site for commercial land, the collection had to move. Several agricultural associations and local groups founded the independent institution Landbomuseet Kolding for this purpose in November 2003; Elbæk transferred the collection to it free of charge. On May 22, 2005, the museum opened to visitors at Brødsgård in Harte.
Brødsgård is an old farm that is first mentioned in 1468 as a small noble residence, later belonged to the royal cavalry district and passed into farmers' ownership in 1765. After a fire in the 1860s it was relocated to the present road. In 1988 the family sold the farm to the municipality, after which the land went to the state, which created the Harte Skov forest here. The museum rents the buildings.
Today the house shows about 2,500 objects on about 2,000 m², from the hook plow to the combine harvester, as well as home economics and tools of rural craftsmen. Operation and expansion are entirely in the hands of volunteers and a friends' association.
