About the museum

The association Værløse Flyhistoriske Hangar was formed in 1984 as a retirees' association of former employees of Flyvestation Værløse, the Air Materiel Command and the Værløse main workshop. Its members maintained aircraft and engines that had been in service at the air base, cataloged historical objects and collected memories of former employees. After the airfield closed, the association had to move to meeting rooms in the Jonstruplejren, where hardly any workshop work was possible.

Today the association is based in Hangar 2 on the former airfield grounds. Volunteers there restore aircraft, aircraft parts and engines for the exhibition and catalog an extensive archive of photos and documents on the history of the air base. On display are, among others, an F-16, two Draken, a CF-104D Starfighter, an F-84G Thunderjet, an F-100F Super Sabre and a Lynx helicopter; the Air Force's F-16 is at times also assembled and disassembled for exhibitions elsewhere on Zealand.

In the same hangar, Furesø Museer, together with the historical collection of the Danish Air Force, shows a permanent exhibition on the history of Flyvestation Værløse, to which the association contributed material. In addition, there are lectures, tours for groups and school classes, and events on the former airfield.
