About the museum

The Filmimuuseum was founded in 2006 and is part of the Eesti Ajaloomuuseum (Estonian History Museum). It has been housed since 2017 in an architecturally striking building in the Maarjamäe palace park. Visitors are led to the museum along a “red carpet” that runs through the palace park, and a film alley presents the history of Estonian cinema through playful art installations.

The museum presents the process of making films and the history of Estonian cinema, and it collects and preserves film heritage: costumes, props, photographs and sketches. Most of the material is linked to the legendary film studio Tallinnfilm. The building also has a modern 210-seat cinema hall. Educational programmes give young people practical experience of filmmaking.
