About the museum

The Läänemaa Muuseum was founded in 1929 on a private initiative to collect and present the cultural heritage of Läänemaa. The historic town hall, built in 1775, became the museum’s home in 1950.

The permanent exhibition “Kuurortlinna teejuht“ shows life in Haapsalu from the late 19th century until 1940 through the eyes of a holidaymaker. In the second wing of the building, thematic temporary exhibitions alternate.
