About the museum
The Eesti Põllumajandusmuuseum (Estonian Museum of Agriculture), operating in Ülenurme, was founded in 1968. On 18 September 2026 the museum became the Maaelu Uudishimukeskus (Rural Life Discovery Centre), or MUHK. The centre presents rural life from the past through the present to the future and belongs to the foundation Eesti Maaelumuuseumid (Estonian Rural Museums).
The new permanent exhibition “Milleks mulle muld?! Seemnest saagini, äkkest robotini” (What Do I Need Soil For?! From Seed to Harvest, Suddenly to Robot) takes visitors underground, into the field, into the shop and into the future of agriculture and food. The exhibition explores what sound soil makes, how much work an earthworm does and how food reaches the shelf in the shop from the field.
Nostalgia is offered by the exhibition “Kust tuli kaste ja kuhu kadus liha?!” (Where Did the Sauce Come From and Where Did the Meat Go?!) about Soviet Estonian canteen culture and shortages, and by the miniature exhibition “Vaata, ma kahandasin kolhoosi!” (Look, I Shrank the Collective Farm!) with models at 1:35 scale. Outside there are old machinery and equipment and an animal area.
