About the museum
PoCo grew out of the lifelong collecting of the Estonian technology promoter Linnar Viik, which he began in the late 1980s. As Estonia opened up to the world, the boundaries of the collection also expanded, and over the decades a private archive grew into a mission. In 2023 the museum opened its doors in the Rotermann Quarter in Tallinn and turned more than a thousand square metres of space into a living display of global pop art and contemporary art.
The museum holds hundreds of works by artists who reflect our time. The display includes names such as Warhol, Banksy, Koons, Lichtenstein, Haring, Hirst, Hockney, Basquiat, Kusama and Newton. The permanent exhibition is divided into the themes “Enne popkunsti” (Before Pop Art), “Ikoonid” (Icons), “Ümber maailma” (Around the World), “Tarbimine ja glamuur” (Consumption and Glamour), “Tänavakunst” (Street Art) and “Digitaalkunst” (Digital Art), and brings Estonian and international artists into dialogue.
The museum is a so-called black box: the works are displayed in dark rooms where they are lit. In addition to the exhibition, the museum organises guided tours, educational programmes and events, and rents out rooms, including the event space PoCo Lab.
