About the museum
Hotell Viru was built as a hotel for foreign visitors and opened in 1972; less than 20 years remained until the end of the Soviet era. The hotel was also meant to suit the KGB, the state security organisation.
The museum tells how two parallel worlds existed side by side in the Soviet era: one that existed mainly on paper, where happy people lived in abundance, and the other, real world, which was far more varied and complicated. The museum can be entered only with a guide.
