About the museum
The museum is located in the manor centre of Räpina, in Sillapää Manor, surrounded by a species-rich park, and operates on the ground floor of a building completed in the first half of the 19th century. The Räpina Vabaharidusühendus (Räpina Free Education Association) began its activity in Sillapää Manor in 1994, and in 1995 the museum opened its doors. In 2009 the first floor of the building was renovated and restored.
The manor building was constructed in the first half of the 19th century; in 1920 the Räpina reaalgümnaasium (Räpina Real Gymnasium) began its activity there, and from it the provision of horticultural education began. The permanent exhibition “Räpina lugu” (The Story of Räpina) covers the formation of the area, the manor, the parish, the paper industry, education and society activities, and the story of the horticultural school. During a guided tour you can also, if you wish, walk round the manor park.
