About the museum
Killinkosken Wanha Tehdas is the former ribbon factory of P. G. Holm, later Inka Oy, at Killinkoski in Virrat. The building was designed by church architect Josef Stenbäck, and the oldest parts of the protected building were completed in 1908. The Killinkoski village association has developed the old factory premises into a varied tourist destination that reflects more than a century of industrial heritage, which is rare in the middle of the countryside.
The factory premises house the Nordic countries' only ribbon industry museum, located in the former production department and sewing room. Kamerataivas presents the collections of the Suomen kameramuseo (Finnish Camera Museum), and the Into Centre tells the history of the Nyström cultural family and the life of I. K. Inha, the national photographer born in Virrat. There is also an exhibition presenting the work of Josef Stenbäck, the Killin Kalleria gallery, a barber and hairdressing museum, and an exhibition of firefighting equipment assembled by the Killinkoski volunteer fire brigade.
The area also has a factory shop, whose ribbon selection is one of the largest in the country, and a museum café. The summer season of Wanha Tehdas, run by the village association, begins in May and lasts until the end of September.
