About the museum
The Klemettimuseo was founded in 1957 in the summer home of Armi and Heikki Klemetti in the centre of Kuortane, in the immediate vicinity of the Talomuseo (house museum). The museum is run by Kuurtanes-Seura.
The museum grounds comprise three buildings: the main building Heliä, completed in 1903 and designed by Heikki Klemetti himself; the small villa Armila, drawn in 1908 by the architect Oiva Kallio; and the sauna room, which is associated with Armi Klemetti. The collections include a wealth of objects related to the work of Armi and Heikki Klemetti and to the past decades of Finnish choral singing.
Heikki Klemetti (1876–1953) was a choral conductor, composer, writer and architectural researcher born in Kuortane. He founded the Suomen Laulu choir and for many years led the Ylioppilaskunnan Laulajat (YL).
