About the museum
The Lukkarin puustelli is a local heritage museum run by the municipality of Loppi, next to the Pyhän Birgitan puukirkko (St Birgitta’s wooden church). The collections mainly present the peasant life of Southern Häme. The main building is probably from the late 19th century and follows the Caroline style.
The house has a kitchen furnished with objects from the early 20th century, a traditional table and benches, a spinning wheel (rukki), a sofa group in the tupa, and a room devoted to the history of Loppi. The outbuildings contain farming tools, household vessels and other objects.
In the early 1960s, students of the Hämäläinen student nation (Hämäläisen osakunta) collected more than a thousand objects from homes in Loppi for the museum. A collection of several hundred objects belonging to Martti Hautahuhta was also transferred to the museum, along with an old storehouse; later two storehouses were added to the courtyard.
