About the museum
Tamminiemi is a villa on the seashore in Helsinki, and it became the official residence of the presidents of Finland. The presidents Ryti, Mannerheim and Kekkonen lived there. The house is best known for the long presidency of Urho Kekkonen: the name Tamminiemi became a common term in Finnish politics.
Kekkonen lived in the house for some thirty years until his death, after which it was turned into a house museum. It opened as a museum in 1987. Visitors see the house as it was in the 1970s, when the presidential couple lived there.
Tamminiemi belongs to the museum sites of the Kansallismuseo (National Museum of Finland). In the villa’s restaurant, in a seaside setting, Café Adjutant serves café treats and lunch.
