About the museum
Turun tuomiokirkkomuseo was located in the southern galleries of Turku Cathedral and told the story of the cathedral and church life from the 1300s onwards. The museum displayed medieval saint statues and altar vessels from the Catholic Middle Ages, as well as church textiles and silverwork by skilled craftsmen from the period after the Reformation. Visitors could also learn about the building phases of the cathedral there.
The present museum closed in autumn 2025, when extensive renovation of the cathedral began. The cathedral itself is closed from 9 February 2026 to 2 December 2028. The renovated museum will open with a new exhibition once the renovation is complete, at the earliest in Advent 2028, when the City of Turku celebrates its 800th anniversary.
