About the museum
Värtsilän myllymuseo operates in the mill on the bank of the Jänisjoki in the centre of Värtsilä. The mill, which dates from 1938, stands on its present site. It was in use until the 1980s. The building is owned by Tohmajärvi municipality, and the museum is run by the Värtsilä local heritage society. The museum was founded in 1978.
The exhibition includes objects related to milling, various tools and household items, as well as the milling machinery, which was renewed in 1939. A special feature of the collection is the instruments of the brass band of the Värtsilän työväenyhdistys (workers’ association) from the years 1910–1937.
