About the museum

The Atelier-musée de l’imprimerie (AMI) opened its doors in Malesherbes in 2018. The project was led by printers Chantal and Jean-Paul Maury, who assembled a collection of machines and presses over more than twenty years. The association Artegraf, which brings together printing professionals and former printing workers, takes part in its operation. The project received support from the Ministry of Culture, the DRAC, the Centre-Val de Loire Region and local authorities.

The museum occupies a large building of about 5,000 m², part of which is reserved for temporary exhibitions. Its aim is to pass on the memory of the printing trades and the skills of those who made the machines, books and newspapers.

The permanent route presents nearly 150 machines and covers Gutenberg and the beginnings of printing, typography, printers, lithography, photoengraving, the press, printed matter and the book. Workshops on papermaking, calligraphy, typesetting and printing complete the visit.
