About the museum
The Fondation Bemberg is housed in the Hôtel d’Assézat, a townhouse built from 1555 for Pierre d’Assézat, a wealthy woad merchant. The building is one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in Toulouse.
Collector Georges Bemberg assembled a collection of paintings, sculptures and art objects over the course of his life. To keep this collection accessible to the public, he set up the foundation, which has been presenting it in Toulouse since 1995.
The route traces several centuries of artistic creation, from the Renaissance to 20th-century art, with works ranging from Véronèse to Picasso. The collection is particularly known for its important group of paintings by Pierre Bonnard. Temporary exhibitions complement the permanent display.
