About the museum
La Demeure du Chaos was created in 1999 by the artist Thierry Ehrmann in Saint-Romain-au-Mont-d’Or. The site covers about 9,000 m² and holds several thousand works, including many steel sculptures, as well as paintings, prints, installations and land art.
The site opened to the public in February 2006. It is presented as an open-air contemporary art museum whose route takes place mainly outdoors; the interiors are open only on rare occasions, for example during the European Heritage Days.
Admission is free. In 2026, La Demeure du Chaos is a partner of the 18th Lyon Biennale. The site also houses the head offices of Artprice and Artmarket.
