About the museum

MUSCO was founded by Gaëlle and Richard Sève, who ran the project for some twenty years. It is described as the first chocolate museum to open in the Lyon region. It is located in the heart of the Parc du Puy d’Or, in the same building as the Sève house’s chocolate factory. The exhibition design was created by the agency Fakestorybird.

The route tells the story of chocolate from its cacao origins to its transformation, in a playful, visual and sensory way. Several sections trace the history and culture of cacao, and then the process from bean to chocolate paste. A collection of objects brought back from travels in Central America, old maps and a suspended pirogue illustrate this story.

Behind a glass wall, visitors can watch the chocolatiers and machines at work: chocolate is made on site using the “Bean to Bar” principle, from the bean to the bar. A tasting counter introduces visitors to the art of tasting, a shop sells the house’s products, and chocolate and pastry workshops take place by reservation.
