About the museum
Pont-Érambourg station opened in 1868 under the Compagnie des chemins de fer de l'Ouest, initially as a simple halt at the point where three communes meet. It was classified as a station in 1880, which allowed it to apply rates for goods and passengers. At its peak it saw more than a dozen goods trains and fifteen passenger trains a day. The SNCF took over its management in 1938; passenger service ended in 1970, and in 1979 the station closed to all traffic.
Since 1999 the association ACF, the Amicale pour la mise en valeur de la ligne Caen-Flers, has maintained the track. It runs vélorail trips of about 13 km return along the Noireau valley, as far as the Gouttes tunnel. In 2006 the Basse-Normandie regional council decided to preserve the line.
The association has also set up a depot museum devoted to the region’s railway heritage. A free exhibition, housed in a postal wagon, can be visited before or after the vélorail trip. During the Journées du patrimoine (Heritage Days), the site also displays historic locomotives and carriages.
