About the museum
The Mont Lozère ecomuseum was created in 1984 in the Cévennes National Park, at Le Pont-de-Montvert. Its collection illustrates the agricultural economy of the mid-mountains, dominated by pastoralism. Wool working, rye cultivation and granite architecture also mark the history of this area. Besides an exhibition space in the village, the ecomuseum included an outdoor site with paths and representative locations.
The permanent exhibition has been closed to the public since 2018. It is due to reopen in a completely renewed form in a “Maison du mont Lozère” that will combine a tourist office and a museum space. The thread of the new exhibition is agro-pastoralism in its contemporary context: cattle breeding and the transhumance of sheep shape this cultural landscape, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2011.
