About the museum
In 1860, engineers Émile and Henri Trottier founded an ironworks in Inzinzac-Lochrist on the right bank of the Blavet, providing waterpower and access to the port of Hennebont. The works produced printed tinplate for fish and vegetable canneries along the southern coast of Brittany.
After some twenty years it was bought by the Société Générale des Cirages Français, which developed it to nearly 3,000 employees by 1936. Peasants who had become metalworkers lived to the rhythm of the works, which became a workers’ estate, until the furnaces went out in 1966.
The écomusée is housed in the former physical and chemical testing laboratory for metal. Its 16 permanent exhibition rooms recount the daily life of these families through films, animated models, old tools and testimonies. It is a public institution of the Town of Inzinzac-Lochrist.
