About the museum
The Ferme musée rustique occupies a former half-timbered farm in the heart of the village of Saint-Léger-près-Troyes, on the banks of the Ruisseau de l’Étang l’Abbé. The buildings were beautifully restored, which earned the site the “Chef-d’œuvre en péril” prize.
The museum displays over 1,500 tools and folk art objects in a setting that evokes rural life in the past, including a bread oven and farm tools. It also introduces visitors to local half-timbered architecture.
Visits are guided talks (visites-conférences) by appointment. They end with an evening gathering by the fire (veillée au coin du feu), where the poet Marcel Bres reads extracts from his books. Large evening gatherings with storytellers, singers and old instruments, as well as artists’ exhibitions, are also held there.
