About the museum
The Fondation Arp was founded in 1978 at the initiative of Marguerite Arp-Hagenbach, Jean Arp’s second wife; Jean Arp himself had conceived the project. It was recognised as being of public utility by decree in 1979.
In 1929, Jean Arp and Sophie Taeuber settled on the edge of the Meudon forest, in a home-studio that Sophie Taeuber had designed. Today the foundation holds an exceptional collection there, along with archives and a documentary, photographic and bibliographic collection. It is also a research centre and an authentication body for the work of both artists.
The foundation’s collections received the “musée de France” label by order of March 9, 2004.
