About the museum
The Fondation d’entreprise Louis Vuitton was founded in October 2005 by the LVMH group and its maisons to extend their patronage. In 2001, Bernard Arnault commissioned architect Frank Gehry to design the building, which stands in the Jardin d’Acclimatation in the Bois de Boulogne. The land is subject to a City of Paris concession, and the building is due to revert to the city after fifty-five years.
Built between 2008 and 2014, the building resembles a large sailing ship: twelve glass sails enclose white concrete volumes spread over several levels, with galleries, an auditorium and terraces. It was inaugurated in October 2014.
The Foundation presents a programme of temporary exhibitions devoted to modern and contemporary art, as well as concerts, performances and talks in the auditorium. Its collection includes works by modern and contemporary artists, as well as works commissioned for the building, notably by Ellsworth Kelly and Olafur Eliasson. The venue welcomed around 1.57 million visitors in 2025.
