About the museum
On October 22, 1940, Pierre Laval met Hitler at Montoire, and then Marshal Pétain, head of the French State, met him in turn on October 24 at the town’s small station. The place was chosen for practical reasons: the station was close to the demarcation line, away from any built-up area, and a nearby tunnel made it possible to shelter the official train.
Since 2003, a museum area has occupied the historic station. It places the meetings in their context and retraces how they unfolded, with backlit panels, photos, archive films and a 1:87 scale model that recreates the site as it was on October 24, 1940.
The educational route uses thirteen mannequins and covers themes such as the concentration camps, the FFI, the stalags, the Resistance and schooling during the Occupation. It ends in the period model room, which recreates the station, the wagons, vehicles and figures.
