About the museum

The Historial Jeanne d'Arc opened in 2015 in part of the archiepiscopal palace in Rouen, at the foot of the cathedral. It is run by Rouen Sites et Monuments, which also manages other heritage sites in the city.

The palace preserves the remains of the Officialité hall, where Joan of Arc was condemned in 1431 and where the 1456 trial that rehabilitated her took place. The archbishopric is still in use and brings together elements from several periods: the visit passes through the Romanesque crypt, the Chapelle d'Aubigné, the Salle des États and the watchtower.

The digital trail draws on authentic extracts from the trial record. From room to room, visitors follow the 1456 inquiry led by Archbishop Jean Juvénal des Ursins on the basis of the testimony of twenty-three witnesses, from Joan's childhood in Domrémy to her military campaigns.

The visit ends with the Mythothèque, a multimedia space of three rooms that shows how Joan of Arc's image has been used and debated from the 15th century to the present day. The Historial celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2025.
