About the museum
The Hospici d'Illa is a former hospice, also called the Hospice Saint-Jacques, which took in the poor and travellers. Its main building dates from the 17th and 18th centuries and is divided into alcoves that open onto a chapel and a sacristy. The building is listed as a historic monument.
The site presents the heritage of the Pays Catalan, with a focus on Romanesque and Baroque art. The works come from the commune of Ille, private owners and state deposits. They include goldsmiths' work, sculptures and paintings, as well as a Romanesque altar frontal and a Romanesque retable.
The site is currently closed, as the wings of the hospital complex are undergoing a conservation and restoration programme.
