About the museum
La Seigneurie is a heritage interpretation center in Andlau, set in a former residence of the lords of Andlau. Built in 1582–1583, the building is a characteristic example of Renaissance noble architecture and one of the village’s landmarks. Archaeological digs carried out when the center was created turned up objects that bear witness to the daily life of a 16th-century Alsatian noble family.
The venue was designed to help visitors discover and understand the natural and cultural heritage of the Pays de Barr and, more broadly, of Alsace. The historic building, combined with a modern wing that houses the reception and the shop, offers 700 m² of exhibition space across several levels, from the basement, where the temporary exhibition is held, up to the fourth floor.
The permanent route occupies the three upper floors. It presents the territory, its landscapes and resources, viticulture and half-timbered houses, then the abbey of Andlau and Romanesque art, and finally fortified castles, the Renaissance mansion, town halls and civic buildings. Tactile models, building games and audiovisual kiosks make the visit playful.
