About the museum
The Maison Chevanne is a former fortified manor house at 7 Grand'Rue, in Bellegarde-en-Marche, in the Creuse. The ground floor houses an association library, and the tourist office has been located there since 2008. The museum occupies the first and second floors.
It is run by the association Air Mémorial Creusois, founded in 2008. The museum pays tribute to the aviators of the Creuse, civilian and military, from the early days of aviation. Bellegarde-en-Marche is the birthplace of General Lionel de Marmier, who created the military air lines during the Second World War, and of François Denhaut, inventor of the flying-boat hull.
Several themed rooms present permanent and temporary exhibitions on the people and events that have marked the skies of the Creuse. The museum's website also highlights the B-17 bomber and a section entitled “Rêves d'Icare”.
