About the museum
The Musée d’art et d’archéologie de Guéret is a municipal museum on the Avenue de la Sénatorerie. Its collections comprise around 17,000 works and objects, including natural history specimens, paintings (notably by artists of the Creuse valley), Limousin enamels, archaeological finds, pieces from ancient Egypt, and Chinese and Japanese art.
The museum is closed to the public for renovation: a new modern building is being constructed beside the historic building to house compliant storage, an education room and other spaces. Once the works are complete, the whole site is due to be fully accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.
In the meantime, the town offers an off-site trail through the town center, with about ten panels, as well as talks called “Rendez-vous du musée”.
