About the museum

The museum occupies La Grande-Vigne, a residence on the port of Dinan that was at once the home, studio and main source of inspiration of the artist Yvonne Jean-Haffen (1895–1993). Owned by the town of Dinan, it has kept the atmosphere the artist created there and holds the “Maison des Illustres” label.

A painter, draughtswoman, printmaker and ceramicist, Yvonne Jean-Haffen began her career in Paris in the 1920s. She took part in decorative schemes for ocean liners and buildings, and worked in ceramics at Quimper and Sèvres. In 1937, she and her husband acquired a second home in Brittany: La Grande-Vigne, which also became a true creative space.

In the house's studio, she collaborated with Mathurin Méheut on the large decorations of the Institut de géologie in Rennes, now kept at the University of Rennes I. She also illustrated many books, including works by Roger Vercel, Roger Heim, Jean de La Varende and Yves Milon. She regularly entertained artist and writer friends, among them Mathurin Méheut, Roger Vercel and Florian Le Roy.

Each season, a temporary exhibition is shown in the house; in 2026, it accompanies a biography of the artist published in March.
