About the museum

The Maison de la Mosaïque contemporaine is an art center devoted to promoting contemporary mosaic, on the banks of the Canal du Centre in Paray-le-Monial. It is run by the association M comme Mosaïque, an association under the French law of 1901 founded in 2000 and awarded the Ateliers d’art de France label.

The project originated with the Musée Paul Charnoz, which organized the town’s first contemporary mosaic exhibition in 1998. Because of its success, enthusiasts extended the event the following year and then organized workshops, which led in October 2000 to the creation of the association, initially named “Aime… comme Mosaïque”. It changed its name in 2008. In 2011 it bought the former offices of the Cerabati factory, reconnecting with the town’s industrial roots.

The house opened to the public in April 2013 after a first phase of work; the complete restoration of the building, funded by Europe, the State and local authorities, was completed in 2019. The venue offers exhibitions, workshops run by artists, long-term training, regular workshops, a library and publications.
