About the museum
The Moulins de Roupeyrac, in Durenque in Aveyron, bring together a flour mill, a frame saw and a pond of feudal origin, in a green setting. The site is also the birthplace of the poet François Fabié.
François Fabié was born on the night of November 2 to 3, 1846, at the small mill of Roupeyrac. The son of a farm woman and a miller-woodcutter, he enjoyed a free childhood in a loving family. A bright pupil, he left his village for Rodez, then for Cluny. From 1872 he taught literature in Toulon, then in Paris, and ended his career in 1908 as director of the Colbert school. He died in Toulon in 1928.
Fabié wrote numerous poems, plays and novels, inspired by the nature around the mills, by his childhood and by his family. The guided tour includes an introductory film, the grinding room, the poet’s birthplace and the sawmill in operation.
