About the museum
The museum opened in May 1991 in the castle of Saint-Beauzély, in the heart of the medieval village in the Muse valley. Volunteers from the association gathered and restored its collections, which comprise several thousand objects. It is affiliated with the Musée du Rouergue.
Eight rooms of the castle present the work of sandstone by the masons, quarrymen and stonecutters of Saint-Beauzély, a specialty of the Muse valley. These craftsmen built, among other things, the ramparts of the Templar towns of the Larzac, as well as the church and castle of Salles-Curan. The route also explores rural life through the seasons, the tools and gestures of work, and an old-fashioned schoolroom where each pupil brought a log to heat the school.
