About the museum
The Musée 1900 is the work of collector Gaston Baron, born in Uzès in 1938. For years he travelled across France gathering objects, machines and vehicles dating from 1850 to 1960, which he then restored himself.
He set up his collection in an 18th-century oil mill whose mechanism still works. Restoring the building took many years. The museum opened to the public in 1981, and the collection has continued to grow since then.
Today the museum is run by his son. The route covers 1,500 m² and presents more than 3,700 items, staged in eight settings that visitors walk through like the streets of an old village: cars, motorcycles, bicycles, horse-drawn carriages, firefighting equipment, farm machinery, toys, music, cinema, photography, household appliances and trades of the past.
